About Austin Cathey
A Quick Introduction
My name is Austin Cathey, and I'm a mixed media abstract artist in North Carolina. I received my BFA in Drawing from UNC Asheville, and an MFA in Painting/Printmaking from Miami University of Ohio. I was previously a member of FRANK Gallery in Carrboro/Chapel Hill and am currently a SAHD.
About My Work
For me, my studio is a place to explore and experiment with mediums, materials, ideas, and techniques. Generally speaking, I make drawing and paintings, but I also work to mix and blur the lines between the two practices. My work explores/incorporates a variety of concepts, including (but not limited to) memory, spirituality, emotionalism, toxic masculinity, fragility, environment, and the human condition.
